About us

SREC was established in 1990, and has enjoyed a strong reputation for its one to one work with individual households, dealing with more than 100 cases each year, the majority of which involve alleaged harassment and discrimination.

In 2008 SREC reviewed its work and are now looking to take a more strategic approach to responding to the local equalities agenda through working across all equalities strands to achieve the maximum impact upon community cohesion within the local area.

This review resulted in a new set of objectives being agreed as follows:

Current Objectives

• To integrate the local BME Forum within the fabric of SREC to achieve a co-coordinated and more powerful voice for Sutton's minority communities

• To develop and implement a strategy with other local equalities organisations to ensure their co-ordination and maximum impact in addressing local inequalities issues


• To embed robust and effective governance and management structures within the organisation


• To identify and occupy central, accessible and fit for purpose premises


• To raise the profile and increase awareness of the role and purpose of SREC amongst local stakeholders, voluntary and community organisations and the wider community


• To achieve a nationally recognized quality standard


• To actively participate in the South London sub regional Race Equality Partnership and ensure the organisation is well placed to respond to changing political circumstances and agendas


• To undertake project work when this will contribute to meeting the organisations objectives and sustainability and there is the capacity within the organisation to do so.
   

In 2009, SREC became a Strategic Partner for the London Borough of Sutton.  We support the Council to acheive it's objectives and deliver it's services and we are also a 'Critical Friend' ensuring that Equality and Diversity remain a priority throughout the Council's work.
