SUTTON SHADOW A COUNCILLOR SCHEME 2010

SUTTON SHADOW A COUNCILLOR SCHEME 2010

This is a programme of activity on Community Leadership and Local Governance; part of the “Take Part Pathfinder” programme.

This scheme will run throughout November with activities designed to give residents of Sutton the opportunity to learn more about how local, regional and national decision-making is undertaken. It gives participants information and practical knowledge of procedures/processes and enables them to experience how leadership roles are delivered locally.

Although we are encouraging residents from Black and Minority Ethnic Communities, Young people and Women to take part in this scheme, we welcome applications from all London Borough of Sutton residents interested in finding out more about local governance and community leadership.

No formal knowledge or experience is required and participants may sign-up to as many activities as they wish. These activities will include, shadowing local Councillors in their meetings and surgeries, visiting the House of Commons to learn how our Members of Parliaments work, visiting City Hall and learning about the work of the London Assembly and the Mayor of London as well as a Q & A session with the Worshipful Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Margaret Court, alongside other activities relating to School Governors, Tenants and Residents Associations and other Voluntary Sector organisations.
